What is Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)?

Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is a viral disease that occurs worldwide in cats. It is caused by a type of virus, which tends to attack the cells of the intestinal wall.

Effusive (wet) FIP

Wet FIP is the accumulation of fluid within the abdomen or chest, which causes breathing difficulties. Symptoms include lack of appetite, fever, weight loss, jaundice and diarrhoea.

Non-effusive (dry) FIP

A cat with dry FIP will show ocular or neurological signs. Symptoms include lack of appetite, fever, jaundice, diarrhoea, and weight loss, but there will not be an accumulation of fluid.
